Robust economic performance and declining mortgage rates boosted house construction in the 4th qtr of 1997 according to US Census Bureau. Single-family home construction registered an annualized rate of 1.526 mil units during the quarter. Housing construction is expected to slow down and reach an annual rate of 1.39 mil units in the 4th qtr of 1998.
