Flat income tax for the United States

Article Abstract:

The issue of single income-tax rate for all taxpayers that has been proposed to replace the existing graduated rates is discussed. Bruce Barlett, senior fellow with the National Center for Policy Analysis advocates that single income-tax rate is conceptually simple, whereas Max B. Sawicky, an economist states that it is unfair and would benefit the rich.

Harlem's hell fighters

Article Abstract:

The Harlem businessman Charle Fillmore, a veteran of the Spanish-American War raised a provisionary regiment of 1,000 citizens to pass a bill in 1913 to establish New York's first all-black National Guard regiment. However, finding ways to lure men into the regiment posed a problem.

Insult to injury

Article Abstract:

Medically retired veterans are mostly shorted of their pensions, as they are disabled and hence not eligible for the Army retirement pay. The different levels of compensations received by different types of disabled military retiree are discussed.
