The US Army National Guard and Reserve members are now called up at a rate 13 times more compared with the rate in the 1980s to perform active duties in such missions as peacekeeping in Bosnia or Haiti. This prompted the reservists to make adjustments concerning their civilian jobs.

The spate of aviation accidents is making people wonder if air travel is still safe and if airline authorities and regulators are doing enough. Deregulation seems to have allowed airlines to put safety on the backseat and may have caused the spate of airline disasters in the US.

Captain J. Randolph Babbit says air pilots of the Air Line Pilots Association are taking steps to ensure that accidents are minimized if not altogether eliminated. Babbit maintains that they are working with authorities to fix skewed reports on airline safety.
