Rediscovering a lost city in Illinois

Article Abstract:

Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville, Illinois, is one of 22 monuments designated as a United Nations World Heritage Site. It was built by Native Americans from about 800 to 1300 A.D., and abandoned around 1400. It now features exhibits and trails, and hosts an annual Prehistoric Lifeways Festival.

Rediscovering the Santa Fe Trail

Article Abstract:

There will be widespread celebrations in 1996 to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the beginning of the Santa Fe Trail. Trader William Becknell first blazed the 800-mile trail from Franklin, MO, to Santa Fe, NM. Celebrations in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado and New Mexico are highlighted.
