Article Abstract:
The US has over 500 national wildlife refuges throughout the 50 states, which is considered to be the world's largest system of its kind. Brief descriptions of eight wildlife refuges, such as San Francisco Bay, Virginia's Chincoteague, and Aransas in Texas, are presented.

Valley of the cranes
Article Abstract:
Each spring thousands of sandhill cranes gather along the Platte River to rest and feed before they migrate to nesting grounds in the Arctic. The crane population has recovered from near extinction, and many bird enthusiasts come to Nebraska to see them.
