Duopoly locations and optimal zoning in a small open city

Article Abstract:

A duopoly location model with an asymmetric zoning is analyzed that prohibits firms from locating to a specific interval in a small open linear city. Optimal zoning is about 29.5% of the city with no amenity effect and the absentee landowner eventually confiscates all the land rents raised by zoning.

Paying to queue: a theory of locational differences in nonunion wages

Article Abstract:

A two-city search model shows the persistence of differences in nonunion wages. However, it is difficult to reconcile the effects of unions on nonunion wages as these wage differences across cities are driven by transition rates into the union sector.
