End of the Bradley era
Article Abstract:
Richard Riordan became Los Angeles' first new mayor elect since Tom Bradley's coalition in 1973, promising a new era of business leadership in the government. He has managed to gain the trust of the people, despite being a visionary and a delegate, through his people-oriented approach. He has created jobs, managed businesses efficiently and dealt with problems important to the people. The safety of the people in riot prone zones and education are his major concerns.

Los Angeles' tough new ethics law
Article Abstract:
Los Angeles voters in Nov 1990 approved a set of ethics regulations and the creation of an Ethics Commission. The package, called Measure H, restricts the gifts officials may receive from anyone doing business with the city, and prohibits officials from earning money outside their job. The commission encountered problems at first, but has smoothed its operations and created a set of firm guidelines. Other California cities may follow suit.
