Measuring the benefits of homeowning: effects on children
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine if homeownership is beneficial to children. Specifically, this research ascertained if homeowners' children stay in school longer than renters' children. It also aimed to find out if the probability of getting pregnant as teenagers is lesser among homeowners' daughters than among renters' daughters. Findings revealed that the two aforementioned effects are statistically significant and quantitatively relevant, especially for low-income households. It was also found that the dollar benefit for every low-income household with home-owning parents is $31,000. Policy and practical implications are discussed.

Measuring Welfare Effects of In-Kind Transfers
Article Abstract:
The welfare effects of in-kind transfers, examined for public housing, using both the utility function and demand curve approach, perform similarly. Knowledge of the preference structure is required for both approaches. The demand curve approach may be preferable to the more widely used utility function approach because it provides a better explanation of variations.
