Minimum quality standards under asymmetric duopoly with endogenous quality ordering: a note
Article Abstract:
Minimum quality standards are re- examined under a vertically differentiated duopoly, generalizing the model in Ronen and Valetti by introducing asymmetry into the fixed cost of quality improvement and taking into consideration the endogeneity of quality ordering. Among the conclusions is that when two firms are identical RonenEs results hold even if the quality ordering is endogenous and also in cases where the technology gap is not so large between the firms.
