The Harambee movement and efficient public good provision in Kenya
Article Abstract:
The Harambeemovement in Kenya consists of voluntary self-help programs which provide publicgoods such as education, health care, water supply and agricultural services. The economic implications of the Kenyan government's support and administrationof Harambee projects are discussed. The economic impetus of private households'donations to Harambee programs within a single game prisoner's dilemma model ispresented. It was suggested that the government can maximize the benefits of the Harambee system by allowing it to provide public goods which can be offeredby the private sector.

Dynamic public goods provision with coalitional manipulation
Article Abstract:
A dynamic procedure for providing a public good under time-dependent surplus distribution and which is immune to coalitional manipulation was developed. Under this procedure, consumers are not only required to provide information on their willingness to pay, but are also asked to share their views regarding tax burden distribution and desired arrival times. This procedure avoids the occurrence of additional complications relating to the implementation of trigger strategies by restricting the availability of information to consumers.

Individual production, community characteristics and the provision of local public services
Article Abstract:
An analysis of variations of the relations among individual production functions, community characteristics and local public service provision is presented. The analysis focuses on socioeconomic factors which condition variations in such production functions. Government activities influence community characteristics and contribute to production. It is shown that a technique for public service indexing can be developed based on community characteristics.
