A multiparadigm approach to nursing
Article Abstract:
Nursing practice is developed through differentiating nursing from medicine, which many theorists regard as using holistic theories, and by organizing nursing practice through classification systems. A proposed framework allows these disparate approaches to complement each other with a multiple paradigm approach. This framework encourages biomedical nursing scholarship to interact with the scholarship of holism.

Cultural relativism and cultural diversity: implications for nursing practice
Article Abstract:
Nurse and client interpretations of health and behavior are conditioned by the cultural contexts in which these concepts were formed. The definitions of these concepts are subject to change, so any contact between nurses and clients from differing cultures requires nurses to understand the operative cultural values, evaluate the assumptions underlying them, and base interventions on the most applicable model.

The role of nursing in the rehabilitation of acute stroke patients: toward a unified theoretical perspective
Article Abstract:
The specific role of nursing in rehabilitating acute stroke patients is unclear. One view sees the nurse's function as conserving, meeting the patient's basic physical needs. Another view regards nurses as helping patients to gradually resume the activities of daily living. A more integrated view shows nurses combining the roles of coordinators, maintainers, and trainers.
