Bypassing a high-cost surgery
Article Abstract:
Patients who undergo a minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery tend to leave a hospital sooner than patients with a conventional bypass, according to a study by Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. A study by Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, MD, also found that average hospital charges were $11,620 for the minimally invasive bypass and $17,305 for conventional surgery. However, the American Heart Association says more information is needed before minimally invasive surgery becomes common.
