Article Abstract:
The elements and terminology related to career planning and development are discussed. The common theories concerning individual career planning are briefly outlined and an overview of the career planning process is provided. Career planning, which includes training and education, is seen as an effective tool against the threat of skill obsolescence, but must be undertaken in a well-defined and systematic way to be successful.

Employees should give importance to their career planning. They should be in full control of their career plans, have a positive mental attitude at all times, come up with an overall career schedule that can be changed from time to time according to the situation at hand, develop interpersonal relationships with peers and the outside world and be constantly prepared to deal with high-pressure situations.
