Clinical pathways for family-oriented developmental care in the intensive care nursery

Article Abstract:

Developing a clinical pathway for neonatal patients consistent with principles of neonatal development can improve care in intensive care nurseries. Appropriate guidelines for environmental, nursing, parenting, feeding, and other factors can reduce stress and increase the comfort of neonatal hospital patients, and properly instruct family members in their interactions with hospitalized infants.

Outcome measures after standardized pain management strategies in postoperative patients in the neonatal intensive care unit

Article Abstract:

Standardized pain management can improve the care and reduce the discomfort of hospitalized infants. Albany Medical Center's Children's Hospital in Albany, NY, developed a pain management strategy which successfully hastened postoperative extubation, reduced lengths of stay, and reduced medication side effects in children undergoing abdominal surgery.
