Clinical research opportunities in long-term care
Article Abstract:
There will be many opportunities for skilled and long-term care facilities to participate in medical research. Research is needed on growth factors and other biologic agents to facilitate wound healing as well as on dressings and procedures. In order to conduct research, these facilities will need to create an institutional review board (IRB). The IRB ensures that all regulations and laws are followed and that informed consent is received.

Pressure Ulcer Research: Pressure Ulcer Treatment: A Monograph from the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel
Article Abstract:
The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research issued guidelines in 1994 for care and treatment of pressure ulcers, yet less than 64% of the recommendations were based on research, and less than 5% were supported by at least two clinical trials. Research efforts must be accurately targeted to maximize the advancement of understanding the best ways to treat pressure ulcers.
