The psychiatric model: a critical analysis of its undermining effects on nursing in chronic mental illness
Article Abstract:
The psychiatric medical model, which places mental illness in a disease format, is criticized as not being effective in nursing practice for patients with chronic mental illness. The model assumes a medical cure for each diagnostic category, and the diagnosis determines the treatment. The model also accepts that biological characteristics decide a person's type of mental illness. The diagnosis can be inaccurate because it does not take into account many other factors about a person.

An ecological view of the rural environment: levels of influence on access to health care
Article Abstract:
An ecological framework can be used to examine influences on access to rural health care. This model permits categorization within the micro- or local level, the meso- or regional level, the exo- or national level, and the macro-system level or the overlying structure of beliefs and values. The interplay between negative and positive effects on access to rural care can be examined at each level and the implications for nursing science and practice can be determined.
