Outcomes manager: brain death criteria in the pediatric patient
Article Abstract:
Critical care nurses may deal with the issue of brain death in pediatric patients on a regular basis. Brain death may result from injury or illness. Clear cases of brain death involve total heart and respiratory failure, however, most cases are not clear. Guidelines for determining brain death may not be followed exactly, especially in testing for cessation of breathing. Nurses should work with other medical staff and families in cases of pediatric brain death.

Advanced Practice Nursing for Congestive Heart Failure
Article Abstract:
Outcomes management for patients with chronic diseases requires both supportive functions and direct care roles. These roles occupy a variety of domains, including professionalism, teaching/coaching, status monitoring, delivery system negotiation and quality management. Coordinating care with patient families and physicians for long-term health maintenance is also important in improving outcomes.
