Hospitals, managed care, and the charity caseload in California
Article Abstract:
The for-profit sector hospitals reduce the share of privately insured patients and increase the shares of Medicare patients that managed the charity cases away from private hospitals to public hospitals. Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) the restrictive form of managed care reduce the price paid by privately insured patients, making them relatively less attractive to for-profit hospitals.

Measuring health inequality using qualitative data
Article Abstract:
Self-reported health status (SRHS) records the people own perceptions of their health status have become a strong predictor of objective health outcomes and indications including mortality. The methodology for evaluating inequality when the data are qualitative rather than quantitative in nature is presented.
