Article Abstract:
The political aspects of mammography are clouding changing scientific evidence about the process, and legislation requiring mammogram coverage is primarily being spurred by fear instead of reasoned assessment of results. The dubious hype urging women in their 40's to undergo annual mammograms has superceded medical findings which somewhat qualify the need for screenings; nonetheless, the spectre of breast cancer, the leading cause of death among women in their 40s, has rendered measured assessments almost academic.

Out of reach: the disabled poor worry whether managed care will bring them into the mainstream or cast them by the wayside
Article Abstract:
States are being cautious in developing Medicaid-funded managed care programs for the disabled poor. State and local governments are wondering how they can affordably provide such patients the benefits of managed care without creating a system that, because of low pay rates, discourages provider participation. Managed care's benefits to the disabled poor include a focus on outreach and prevention.
