Matrix Organization: Design and Development for a Hospital Organization
Article Abstract:
The matrix organization model is based on structuring specialized working groups while maintaining the old-line authority structure. It creates new organizational units administratively equivalent to hospital departments such as nursing or pharmacy. Application of the matrix organizational structure to hospital departments is illustrated in charts. The hierarchical structure of hospital organization can be adopted to interface with matrix design. Program development is the basic outcome of matrix design in a health care setting.

Managing clinical integration in integrated delivery systems: a framework for action
Article Abstract:
An integrated delivery system (IDS) can improve management and clinical functions in hospitals by coordinating patient care processes using a cross-functional-process (CFP) framework. Senior management can use the CFP framework to quantify and analyze management issues. The CFP framework is composed of three types of functions, including planning processes, organizational processes, and measurement and reporting. Implementation of IDS may encounter problems due to technological and environmental constraints.
