Capturing healers on canvas

Article Abstract:

Dr. Joe Wilder has been portraying physicians through oil paintings for more than 20 years. His paintings are an attempt to relay the hard work physicians do in an attempt to save and better lives. He has been published on 38 magazine covers, as well as in two books which detail a collection of his work since the 1970s. His next book will depict his life as a painter and a surgeon.

Report card daze

Article Abstract:

Cardiac surgeons at first resisted the New York State Dept of Health's report card program for grading them, but that resistance is fading. The program appears to have contributed to significantly lower mortality rates for hospitals and for coronary artery bypass grafts. Over 12 other states plan to collect and distribute physician performance information.
