SCP Communications, major CME provider, acquires Cliggott, major journal publisher

SCP Communications of New York has purchased Cliggott Publishing Co. of Greenwich, CT, for an unknown amount on September 9, 1998, to produce a new parent firm called SCP/Cliggott Communications, Inc. Cliggott Publishing posted over $20 million in gross in 1997. SCP/Cliggott Communications will reap revenues of around $60 million in 1998 and publish 12 titles. SCP Communications CEO Timothy Fallon will stay on as the new CEO of SCP/Cliggott Communications. Fallon noted that SCP/Cliggott Communications will help SCP Communications to pursue its expansion strategy of acquiring journal franchises that will supply contract research, symposia, and integrated publishing solutions for the healthcare industry and doctors alike.

Scott-Levin in U.S. to go solo

PMSI Scott-Levin, a PMSI marketing research subsidiary in the US, will no longer be acquired by IMS Health because of the delay and the uncertainty of the deal resulting from ongoing antitrust reviews. Scott-Levin provides market research and audit services on managed care, promotional spending and other related accounts for the pharmaceutical industry. IMS Health has agreed to acquire the non-US assets of PMSI, the leading database service provider for the pharmaceutical industry in Europe, for 1.2 million shares of IMS valued at $75 million. PMSI reported revenue of $62 million in its fiscal year ended June 1997. IMS posted revenue of over $1 billion in 1997.
