Supplier-managed inventory: schedule sharing
Article Abstract:
Supplier-Managed Inventory (SMI) works toward a more integrated planning system of customers and suppliers and lessens procurement costs. The cycle time for communicating customer requirements to the supplier is reduced. It allows customers to be flexible in changing schedules and for suppliers to decide shipment schedules. Electronic data interchange is the technology used to communicate the customer's gross requirements, inventory and desired optimal inventory levels.
