The distribution of health and income: a theoretical framework

Article Abstract:

A study developed a general framework to analyze variations in the distribution of population health. The study modeled the response of health to changes in an individual's income, contingent upon the level of another factor, such as health-related behavior, to illustrate this proposed framework. The resulting expected health function was shown to be dependent on the characteristics of the individual health production functions and their distribution within the population.

Valuing health states: a comparison of methods

Article Abstract:

The two most common methods for measuring health state utilities have been the standard gamble (SG) and the time trade-off (TTO). A study is conducted to compare a 'props' and a 'no props' variant of each approach. The former involves especially designed boards while the latter requires self-completion books. Findings indicate that both 'no props' variants are vulnerable to framing effects. It was also found that the TTO props performed better than the SG props.

Estimating parametric relationships between health description and health valuation with an application to the EuroQol EQ-5D

Article Abstract:

Patient health state valuation measurements such as the EuroQol EQ-5D, Health Utility Index and Quality of Well-Being typically classify patients initially into one of a number of possible health states, after which a relevant value can be assigned. A study therefore compared different approaches to valuating patient health state and categorized some fundamental methodological problems in the use of the EuroQol EQ-5D instrument.
