The valuation of health care intangible assets
Article Abstract:
Methods for assessing the value of intangible assets owned by health care facilities are presented. Cost approach methods are grounded on the economic principle of substitution which assumes that investors will only pay for the cost of an investment of equal utility. Market approach methods are based on the tenets of competition and equilibrium which argue that supply and demand will drive the price of an investment to the point of equilibrium. Income approach methods are based on the principle of anticipation where the value of an intangible asset is the present value of the expected economic income.

Managing partnerships: the perspective of a rural hospital cooperative
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine the operations of rural hospital cooperatives. The study focuses on managing partnerships and considers the experience of the Rural Wisconsin Hospital Cooperative (RWHC). The RWHC was established as a regional collaboration function. Results show that managing partnerships employs behavior which varies significantly from individual organizational management. Experiences of the RWHC suggest that principles of mutual trust, commitment, participation and accountability are among the most important aspects of managing partnerships.
