Witness to the revolution
Article Abstract:
Health care delivery through managed care networks was in its infancy 25 years ago, and the revolution in this type of health care has surprised many observers. The Harvard Community Health Plan is one plan which started at the beginning of the managed care movement. Bankruptcy was a real possibility in the plan's early days, but today it is the country's largest HMO. With the increase in cost control pressures, capitation and integration are the challenges facing managed care networks today.

Backlash to the future
Article Abstract:

However, some health providers find that the values of alternative health plans do not meet the expectations. The alternative programs place on the providers enormous responsibility for controlling utilization and risk.
