Healthcare industry executives do not see much future for managed care, but there is no consensus on whether provider-sponsored health care is a good choice for the future. Executives participating in a forum state that future managed care needs to be based on demonstrable quality and service standards, and it needs to engender a productive relationship between health plans and providers. Health care needs to be consumer-driven, but some employers are showing more concern for the quality of the health care provided to their workers, and they are more focused on service and prevention. It is easy for employers and employees to understand price, but more difficult for them to understand the advantages of true care management, according to the executives.
