A 69-year-old man with a complex medical history and severe abdominal pain

Article Abstract:

A 69-year-old man was admitted to a hospital with severe abdominal pain. He had an extensive medical history that included hypertension, a stroke, a heart attack and repeated episodes of deep vein thrombosis. The latter condition is caused by the formation of blood clots in the large veins of the legs. Because of this, his doctors suspected that he had a blood clot in the veins supplying blood to his intestines. During an exploratory laparoscopy, a section of his small intestine was removed. Microscopic examination revealed blood clots and hemorrhages in the tissue.

A five-month-old girl with coffee-grounds vomitus

Article Abstract:

A five-month-old girl was admitted to a hospital because she was vomiting blood. She also had a history of bloody bowel movements. The doctors suspected a stomach tumor, most likely a hemangioma. This is a tumor that affects blood vessels and often disappears within a few years. This diagnosis was confirmed by surgery. Hemangiomas are the most common tumor in young children, but it is unusual for them to occur in the stomach.

An 11-day-old boy with an osteolytic tibial lesion

Article Abstract:

An 11-day-old baby with a mass on his right lower leg was diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia in his shinbone. This is a benign condition that destroys bone, which can lead to fractures. The abnormal bone was surgically removed and the boy wears a brace. His doctors believed the bone would grow as the baby grew up.
