A district nursing renaissance

Article Abstract:

A groundbreaking scheme in Kent is freeing up nurses to provide patients with effective case management of long-term conditions and helping to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. The District Nurse Renaissance Project at Dartford, Gravesham, and Swanley Primary Care Trust is running since December 2004, and it is a scheme that extends the skills of nurses and health care assistants within PCT's district nursing service.

The 'Keep It Clean' campaign is calling for organizational changes to support nurses' fight against health care-associated infections (HAIs). Staff at Hammersmith Hospitals National Health Service (NHS) Trust speaks on how such an approach is dramatically reducing rates of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA).

New push for PBC

Article Abstract:

Practice-based commissioning (PCB), originally introduced in 2004, has received new guidance in December 2006 as part of a bid by the government to get more nurses and doctors designing primary care services. The new guidance is expected to boost PBC ensuring involvement of multidisciplinary teams.
