A novel genotype encoding a single amino acid insertion and five other substitutions between residues 64 and 74 of the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase confers high-level cross-resistance to nucleoside transcriptase inhibitors

Article Abstract:

A mutation consisting of an aspartate codon insertion between positions 69 and 70 in the beta3-beta4 connecting loop of the reverse transcriptase fingers subdomain leads to strong drug resistance by HIV. Resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors is most likely but the mutation can co-exist with mutations conferring resistance to other AIDS drugs.

Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor resistance

Article Abstract:

Resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors is the most actively studied form of HIV drug resistance because these drugs were the first to be used to treat HIV infection. They include zidovudine, lamivudine, stavudine, didanosine, zalcitabine, and abacavir.

Antiviral resistance of biologic HIV-2 clones obtained from individuals on nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor therapy

Article Abstract:

HIV-2 can become resistant to AIDS drugs through gene mutations. Some of the mutations correspond to gene mutations seen in HIV-1.
