ACE gene polymorphism as a risk factor for ischemic cerebrovascular disease

Article Abstract:

There does not appear to be a link between different genetic forms of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene and risk for strokes among men or women. Genetic tests were performed on 9,495 people including 452 patients who had had strokes or brain vessel disease. Overall, patients carrying one ACE gene form were at no greater risk for stroke than those carrying any of the other ACE gene forms. Comparisons made by age, gender, and added vessel risk factors resulted in similar findings.

Factor V Leiden and the risk for venous thromboembolism in the adult Danish population

Article Abstract:

The main purpose was to estimate hazard ratios for venous thromboembolism in factor V Leiden heterozygotes and homozygotes in the adult Danish population and for that 9253 individuals participated. The conclusion is that the hazard ratios for venous thromboembolism in factor V Leiden heterozygotes and homozygotes compared with non-carriers in the adult Danish population are approximately 3 and 18.

Nonfasting triglycerides and risk of myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease, and death in men and women

Article Abstract:

A study conducted provides evidence for hypothesis that very high levels of nonfasting triglycerides levels were associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic disease (IHD) and death in men and women.
