AMA-ERF awards grants to U.S. medical schools

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association Education and Research Foundation contributed $1,548,497.40 in grants to medical schools in Mar 1993. Each grant typically included a restricted section that must be spent on financial aid and an unrestricted section to be spent on improving educational programs. Each medical school that received a grant is listed with the amount of the grant. The medical school listings are organized according to state.

Med schools reel as funds dip

Article Abstract:

CaliforniaEs state budget has put pressures on the publicly funded medical schools by increasing health insurance and workersE compensation premiums, combined with an unfounded salary increase mandate and proposed state cuts. This has made publicly funded medical schools to consider variety of options such as raising tuition, cutting research funding and freezing faculty hiring.

Federal fund cuts for medical schools less than expected

Article Abstract:

Congress has decided to allocated $40 million less to medical schools for the next fiscal year. On other programs the reconciliation bill renews the Exceptional Financial Need Scholarship programs, retains the Health Professions Student Loans, continues the National Health Service Corps scholarships.
