Article Abstract:
The activities of the organization Doctors Without Borders (Medecins sans Frontieres, or MSF) in war-torn Afghanistan are described. This work began during the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and continues in 2001. Doctors' activities are coordinated by the MSF office in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The head of the National Cancer institute from 1988 to 1995 discusses his views on cancer research since the National Cancer Act of 1971 was passed and implemented. The overall cancer mortality rate increased in the 1970s and 1980s, reached a peak in 1992, and began to decrease in 1994.
