Frequent douching can increase a woman's risk of contracting cervical cancer and pelvic inflammatory disease because the process removes the vagina's natural acids. The latter protects the body from bacteria and yeast that can cause infection.

Article Abstract:

Research revealed that women who used spermicidal foam and a condom had a 33% increase in E. coli bacteria in their urine after intercourse. Women who used a diaphragm and spermicide had a 58% increase.

What's a woman to do about estrogen?

Article Abstract:

The benefits and risks of replacement estrogen for postmenopausal women are discussed. Estrogen can prevent osteoporosis in those at high risk. Estrogen appears to cause some increased cancer risk.
