EC panel decisions surprise malaria community

Article Abstract:

While many European researchers are ready to test malaria vaccines on people, a panel appointed by the European Commission has recommended funding basic research projects only. However, ECU1 million has been set aside for the European Malaria Vaccine Initiative, which will fund four clinical trials of malaria vaccines.

SAAVI awards first AIDS vaccine grants

Article Abstract:

The South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative (SAAVI) will fund two basic science projects, one educational program, and one project studying the ethical issues in vaccine development. SAAVI is a public-private grant-giving body administered by the South African Medical Research Council.

Grants will determine European malaria vaccine future

Article Abstract:

A center at Oxford for studying malaria vaccines will be the first in Europe to do so. Other European scientists hope to work on malaria vaccines provided they receive funding from the European Union and the European Malaria Vaccine Initiative.
