Effects of early treatment with statins on short-term clinical outcomes in acute coronary syndromes

Article Abstract:

A study to evaluate relevant outcomes of patients from randomized controlled trials comparing early statin therapy with placebo or usual care at 1 and 4 months following acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is illustrated. Based on available evidence it is concluded that initiation of statin therapy within 14 days following onset of ACS does not reduce death, myocardial infarction, or stroke up to 4 months.

Outcomes and complications associated with off-label and untested use of drug-eluting stents

Article Abstract:

Off-label and untested use of drug-eluting stents are common in U.S. A study has revealed that short term safety of application of drug-eluting stents in indications beyond those approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or device manufacturer is lower than with standard use, however event rates following (percutaneous coronary intervention) PCI remain relatively low.

Glucose metabolism and coronary heart disease in patients with normal glucose tolerance

Article Abstract:

The glucose metabolism in patients with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and coronary heart disease (CHD) is investigated. The results conclude that for patients with NGT and different extents of atherosclerotic disease, postload glycemia and HbA level are not equally distributed but are significantly higher in those with more severe diseases.
