Examine your motivation to help and care for others

Article Abstract:

People in the medical profession need patients to keep them in work and patients need medical staff to provide medical care. Medical staff might choose their job for reasons including assisting in the relief of suffering, contributing to the public good, feeling appreciated, and finding satisfaction. Health professionals will have certain expectations of their patients and the way in which they interact with them.

Insignificant others?

Article Abstract:

Nurses should allow attendance of relatives during patient resuscitation. Excluding families causes feeling of rejection. Experimental practice has revealed families more able to cope with bereavement if they have been present during resuscitation. Nurses should allow relatives to decide whether attendance is appropriate. However, nurse training in support measures would be necessary.

A risk to others

The materials in question are blood, sputum, urine, faeces, wound exudate and oro/respiratory secretions.
