For want of a disc, the cell was lost...

Article Abstract:

Light damage in the context of an abnormally short outer segment in rod photoreceptors may induce apoptotic photoreceptor degeneration. Normally, the outer segment could repair the damage, but some genetic disorders cause an abnormally short outer segment.

Caspase cleavage of APP results in a cytotoxic proteolytic peptide

Article Abstract:

Cleavage of amyloid precursor protein by the enzyme caspase creates a peptide that can stimulate neuronal cell death. The peptide, designated C31, is unrelated to beta-amyloid, the usual byproduct of amyloid precursor protein metabolism.

Caspase 8: the killer that you can't live without

Article Abstract:

Reactivating caspase 8 may be a promising treatment for neuroblastoma. This enzyme is involved in apoptosis, and researchers discovered that it was inactivated in many neuroblastoma patients with an amplified MYCN oncogene.
