Good companions
Article Abstract:
Hospital patients may benefit from pet therapy. Short-term physiological effects include reduced blood pressure and improved relaxation. Repeated use of pet therapy may have long-term benefits although no evidence is available. Psychological benefits are achieved by normalizing the hospital environment and encouraging social interaction. However, not all patients like pets and their wishes should be respected. Staff should also be aware of the possible infections that may be carried by animals. Visiting pets may be a useful aternative to ward-based pets.

Article Abstract:
Health care workers in the UK must be sensitive to the particular needs of minority ethnic women when trying to advise on continence issues. The women may need educational material in their own language, or they may not be able to read. They may need an interpreter. Also many Muslim women will not discuss issues of this nature in the presence of men, including their husbands. Incontinence advisers should also make themselves aware of ethnic lifestyles, which might reveal special problems.

Article Abstract:
The Bangladeshi Women's Project in London aims to promote continence care among Bangladeshi women, and encourage the prevention of stress incontinence. There was previously very little information translated into Bangali, and the sessions provided the women with their first thorough explanation of incontinence and the need for pelvic floor exercises.
