Article Abstract:
A heart attack is experienced by 1.5 million Americans each year. Two out of three of them survive the attack. Cardiac rehabilitation programs help patients make changes in daily their habits to help improve recovery. The programs focus on medication, lifestyle changes and psychological changes. Drug therapy such as aspirin or warfarin, beta blockers and ACE inhibitors can reduce the risk for a second attack. Increasing exercise, lowering fat and chloresterol in the diet, and quitting smoking play a critical role in recovery.
