A reliable and inexpensive EasyCD4 assay for monitoring HIV-infected individuals in resource-limited settings

Article Abstract:

Tripotassium EDTA blood specimens from HIV-infected individuals were studied using a novel flow cytometric assay, in comparison with standard flow cytometry, to evaluate the accuracy and validity of low-cost CD4 T-cell count assays. Results of the study suggested that EasyCD4 assay could be a useful alternative assay to conventional flow cytometry, appropriate for use in resource-limited settings.

High HIV sexual risk behaviors and sexually transmitted disease prevalence among injection drug users in Northern Vietnam: Implications for a generalized HIV epidemic

Article Abstract:

A community-based cross-sectional study among injection drug users (IDUs) in Vietnam assessed sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevalence and behavioral risk factors. It is found that high STD prevalence and high-risk sexual and parenteral behaviors among IDUs indicate the potential for HIV/STD transmission to the general Vietnamese population.
