In-office opiate treatment "not a panacea": physicians slow to embrace therapeutic option

Article Abstract:

General practitioners in America are not exactly rushing forward to prescribe buprenorphine for their heroin-addicted patients. Buprenorphine was created to de-stigmatize heroin addiction and allow heroin users to get treatment at their doctor's office rather than at a methadone clinic. However, doctors must take a training class and register with the Drug Enforcement Agency. Many want more guidance before they will offer this service.

Consensus Panel Recommendations for Treatment of Early Breast Cancer

Article Abstract:

A panel of doctors and laypersons have issued recommendations on the treatment of early-stage breast cancer after listening to two dozen top breast cancer researchers at a three-day conference. The panel's top recommendations include five years of tamoxifen or other hormone therapy for women with estrogen receptor-positive tumors, combination chemotherapy for most women, and radiation therapy for women at high risk of recurrence.
