In our parents' shadow

Article Abstract:

Lesch-Nyham syndrome is a genetically inherited disease which causes its male suffers to self-mutilate and loose control over bodily movements. There is no cure for the disease, which affects up to 1 out of 380,000 births in the UK. Suffers tend to inflict wounds on themselves from the age of 2 onwards, with finger biting and head banging prevalent. It is a very difficult disease for the families of suffers to cope with.
