Decreased CD127 expression on T cells in HIV-1-infected adults receiving antiretroviral therapy with or without intermittent IL-2 therapy

Article Abstract:

The interleukin-7 (IL-7)/IL-7 receptor [alpha] (IL-7R[alpha]) system is evaluated in a large cohort of HIV-infected patients, including a subset treatment with intermittent IL-2 and a multivariate regression models are used to determine predictors of CD127 expression. The results have shown that CD127 expression on T cells remain low in HIV-infected patients despite antiretroviral therapy, reflecting persistent aberration in the subset composition of the T-cell pool.

When to start therapy for HIV infection: a swinging pendulum in search of data

Article Abstract:

Doctors continue to design clinical trials to determine when to begin treating HIV patients. Some doctors believe HIV patients should start taking AIDS drugs as soon as they are diagnosed. Other doctors believe in waiting until the patient's T cell count decreases. A study published in 2003 shows that immediate treatment may be beneficial, but the study was too small to prove this conclusively.
