Makeup of uninsured population unclear

Article Abstract:

A report from the Institute of Medicine shows that uninsured Americans are sicker, die younger, and receive less care for traumatic injuries than people with health insurance. Though it is estimated that insurance retention could reduce the number of uninsured, low-income children by nearly 40% and number of uninsured adults by more than 25%, the approach seems difficult to enact.

Groups come together to speak up for uninsured

Article Abstract:

A partnership of 16 national organizations, including the American Medical Association, The California Endowment and others is aiming to solve the problem of uninsured and to agree on real-world solutions. Studies reveal that people who donEt have health insurance during any given year receive, on average, half as much acre as those with insurance.

Budget outline earmarks fund for Medicare reform

Article Abstract:

The Congress has passed a fiscal year 2004 budget resolution that includes more than $500 billion for health programs and research. It is also setting aside $400 billion to be spent over the next 10 years to reform Medicare and add a prescription drug benefit.
