Risks of preeclampsia and adverse neonatal outcomes among women with pregestational diabetes mellitus

Article Abstract:

Diabetic women who become pregnant have a higher risk of pre-eclampsia and other complications of pregnancy such as premature birth and small-for-gestational-age babies. This was the conclusion of a study of 462 diabetic women.

Hypertensive disorders in twin versus singleton gestations

Article Abstract:

Women who are pregnant with twins have twice the risk of developing hypertension of preeclampsia during pregnancy, according to a study of 3,630 pregnant women. Those who developed hypertension were more likely to have premature birth and small-for-gestational-age babies.

Maternal serum thromboxane B2 concentrations do not predict improved outcomes in high-risk pregnancies in a low-dose aspirin trial

Article Abstract:

Reduction in serum thromboxane B2 levels with aspirin therapy does not appear to reduce the risk of preeclampsia or otherwise improve outcomes in high-risk pregnancies. Aspirin lowers thromboxane B2 levels in the blood, which may be associated with the hypertensive complication, preeclampsia. Researchers treated 1,010 women with either low-dose aspirin or placebo. Thromboxane B2 concentrations were much lower in women who took aspirin, but they had similar rates of pregnancy complications as women given a placebo.
