Article Abstract:

Information on the structure and function of the spine and spinal cord is presented. The spinal cord travels downward from the level of the foramen magnum through the vertebral canal. It carries neurological pathways that transfer sensory impulses towards the brain or motor impulses away from the brain.

The cerebellum is the essential part of the brain located under the occipital lobe of the cerebral cortex. It is linked with balance. The brain stem is the location of the crossover of around 75% of the descending pyramidal motor pathways.

The limbic system is made up of a series of nuclei, with the limbic lobe being located below the cerebral cortex. The areas that form the limbic system include the septal area, the hypothalamus and the amygdala.
