The authors review the publications on HIV surveillance recommendations. The topics of interest include surveillance systems in countries with different levels of epidemics and the use of information generated by these systems.

Research has been conducted on HIV/AIDS monitoring situation in Europe. Results demonstrate that HIV reporting has become the central element of HIV/AIDS surceillance in Europe.
