President calls on Congress to federalize Medicaid program

Article Abstract:

Under President Reagan's redistribution of government economic programs, the Medicaid and Medicare programs were cited to be federalized. Starting in 1984 the federal government would assume full financial responsibility for Medicaid and Medicare programs. As part of the financial swap between federal and state governments, the full responsibility for Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and food stamps would go to the states.

Health funds caught in fight on budget

Article Abstract:

If the formal budget negotiations between the White House and Congress collapse there could be a veto war over taxes and spending cuts. Major health items that would be influenced are the $5 billion of reductions in Medicare and Medicaid spending proposed by the Administration, and the regular funding of all the health programs of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Health budget cuts proposed by Reagan easily win approval

Article Abstract:

A review of the Congresses approval of Presidents Reagan's budget resolutions to cut federal spending is presented. The Senate and the House voting and political maneuvering are discussed.
