Product safety - let 'em burn?

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of UK product recall systems rely on the methods used by different parties for enforcing the recall and for what reasons. This can result in different methods being used, which may not be entirely satisfactory or safe. The problems lies with a wide array of product recall legislation which relies on the prevention of faulty goods reaching the consumer rather than dealing with a substandard product once it is in the hands of the purchaser. A simplification of European legislation would help clear up difficulties in the UK system.
